Safe and Sound Protocol & Rest and Restore Protocol

Nervous System Regulation Through Listening

Safe and Sound Protocol (SSP)

What is SSP?

The Safe and Sound Protocol (SSP) is an evidence-based listening therapy designed to support regulation of the autonomic nervous system — the part of your nervous system that helps you feel safe, calm, and socially connected.

How it can help

Much of human distress — like anxiety, overwhelm, or social disconnection — comes from a nervous system that is stuck in defense mode: always scanning for threat and struggling to relax. This can keep clients in chronic stress even when danger isn’t present. SSP uses specially filtered music to gently stimulate the auditory nervous system. This supports activation of the ventral vagal system, which helps the body interpret safety cues from voices and social environments and move out of survival mode.

🔹 SSP is not talk therapy — it works “below the surface” by shifting physiological states.
🔹 It’s typically completed over a series of listening hours under therapist supervision to ensure safety and integration.
🔹 It complements other therapies (ETT, EMDR, somatic work, etc.) by making your nervous system ready for deeper work.

Real-World Impact

SSP isn’t just a theory — real-world evidence shows measurable improvement in client outcomes after completing the protocol:

Anxiety

  • 85% of clients reported improvement in anxiety symptoms.

  • In one sample, average anxiety scores decreased from clinical severity to mild range.

Depression

  • 81% of clients reported fewer depressive symptoms.

  • Average depression scores moved from clinical to subclinical ranges after SSP.

Trauma & Emotional Regulation

  • Up to 87% saw relief in trauma-related symptoms.

  • Caregivers of children noted significant psychosocial improvements.

These kinds of results illustrate how physiological regulation — not just cognitive insight — can transform everyday functioning, mood, and stress resilience.

Rest and Restore Protocol (RRP)

What is RRP?

The Rest and Restore Protocol is a gentler, slower listening program designed to support deep nervous system calming and stabilization. While SSP focuses on improving social engagement and resilience, Rest and Restore emphasizes helping the body settle into rest, safety, and recovery.

This protocol is especially supportive for individuals who feel easily overwhelmed, fatigued, or stuck in chronic stress or shutdown.

How i can help

The Rest and Restore Protocol is a gentle, nervous system–based listening intervention designed to help the body settle into deep states of calm, safety, and restoration. It supports the parasympathetic nervous system — the part responsible for rest, recovery, and regulation — making it especially helpful for individuals whose systems feel chronically overwhelmed, fatigued, or shut down.

Using specially designed soundscapes, Rest and Restore helps reduce physiological stress and supports the nervous system’s natural ability to recover. This creates a foundation for improved sleep, emotional stability, and increased capacity to engage in daily life and therapy without overwhelm.

What’s the Difference?

Safe and Sound focuses on building nervous system resilience, safety, and social engagement.

Rest and Restore focuses on calming, grounding, and restoring the nervous system.
